Today (May 5, 2024), at the Government House, before the weekly Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra participated in a promotional event featuring "Moo Deng, the Baby Pygmy Hippo, as part of Thailand's soft power initiative from the natural attractions of Thai zoos". The event was led by Chalermchai Sri-on, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, along with senior ministry officials and "Benz" Atthaphon Noondee, caretaker of "Moo Deng," the baby pygmy hippo from Khao Kheow Open Zoo.
The Prime Minister greeted Atthaphon and commended him for recently gaining popularity on social media, remarking, "Fame through making clips!" The Prime Minister then held a plush toy of "Moo Deng," joking that she usually only carries her children, and inquired about meeting the real "Moo Deng." She commented, "I thought I’d get to meet the real Moo Deng today," and warmly greeted the accompanying ministry officials, reminiscing about a visit to Khao Kheow Open Zoo with her child to see Moo Deng. However, due to the long lines, they opted to see the dolphins instead and expressed her intent to visit again if the opportunity arises.
