On November 6, 2024, Senator Chiwaphap Chiwatham, Chair of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Environment, revealed that on November 5, 2024, a meeting was held to discuss and study flash flood and landslide conditions in northern Thailand. Relevant agencies, including the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, the Land Development Department, and the National Land Policy Committee, attended the meeting at the Parliament building.

The meeting presented strategies to prevent and mitigate flash floods and landslides, with plans to establish 1,794 operational centers across the country. Early warning notifications and emergency alerts will be sent via SMS.

Senator Chiwaphap suggested that for locations without mobile service—such as Mae Ai District in Chiang Mai Province, where there are signal coverage gaps and communication challenges with remote communities—a program should be developed to train "sub-district anti-landslide officers." These officers would be trained to monitor and analyze potential evacuation points. The government would need to invest in alert systems, including dirt bikes and warning devices like gongs and wooden clappers, to notify and evacuate residents in high-risk areas.
