On November 6, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Prasert Jantararuangtong, led the ministry’s 13th executive meeting of 2023, discussing key initiatives in digital crime prevention, innovation, and literacy. The meeting addressed pressing digital crime control measures, focusing on shutting down illegal websites and online links—a priority under Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s administration.
The ministry has launched several projects through its new Digital Innovation Division, established in August 2023, aiming to support digital developments without additional funding. Key projects include:
- Weather Forecast App: Developed in collaboration with the Meteorological Department, this updated module within the Thai Weather app features live maps, seven-day forecasts, and detailed weather data at a sub-district level.
- MDES PDF Encrypter: Developed with the National Cyber Security Agency, this tool allows secure, large-scale encryption of government documents without licensing costs, saving approximately 1.7 million baht annually. It is available free for public sector use.
- Illegal Website Evidence System: This AI-enhanced, automated system enables swift documentation of court-ordered site closures. Components include URL checking, media evidence storage, and automated reporting, managing up to 10,000 URLs in three hours with minimal staff.
In addition to these projects, the ministry aims to improve Thailand’s Digital Literacy (DL), planning to enhance digital skills for 250,000 citizens by 2030, targeting underserved areas through 1,722 community digital centers. Training will cover online business skills, content creation, and local digital services, with a goal of 150 trainees per center annually. The ministry is also expanding "digital district" programs and volunteer networks to support digital education nationwide.
