On November 7, Chaiwat Swasirak, President of the Trang Anti-Corruption Club, and local resident Tak-at Jirojmontree inspected the deteriorated public restrooms near Kantang Pier in Trang, which fall under the responsibility of Kantang Municipality. These facilities, built for community and market visitors but abandoned for over five years, have been in severe disrepair with broken fixtures, moldy walls, and a collapsing roof. Though the restrooms were briefly reopened during last year’s Loy Krathong Festival, locals report they have since been left neglected, leading to concerns over safety, unsanitary conditions, and their misuse as gathering spots for drug users and youths.

Residents, including Mr. Tak-at, believe the restrooms should be restored to align with provincial tourism goals, which envision Kantang Pier as a gateway for river-based tourism. Proper restroom facilities would enhance the area’s appeal to visitors, offering cleaner and safer surroundings. However, despite multiple requests, the municipality has not taken steps to refurbish or clarify reasons for the delay.

Chaiwat also emphasized that the neglected area’s safety risks affect residents, with rising concerns about vandalism, substance abuse, and other security issues. He urged the municipality to either renovate or remove the facilities to prevent further misuse and restore the area for community and tourism use.
