An inmate was fatally stabbed by six fellow prisoners at Minburi Remand Prison on the morning of November 9. Prison authorities detained the suspects and confiscated several improvised weapons, including sharpened metal objects and modified cutlery, which were used in the attack. The suspects were handed over to the Minburi Police Station for further questioning.
On November 10, Justice Minister Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong directed the Department of Corrections to conduct a thorough investigation. Deputy Director-General Pol. Lt. Col. Chain Kanjanapach has been assigned to examine how the inmates managed to manufacture and hide weapons within the facility, raising concerns over potential lapses in security protocols. The investigation will also assess the effectiveness of prison safety measures and evaluate the need for improvements.
Minister Thawee indicated that staffing adjustments might be necessary and committed to reviewing overall prison security to prevent similar incidents in the future.
