On November 13, Thai authorities responded to widespread rumors on social media and international news outlets about a possible terror threat targeting Israeli and Jewish tourists at the upcoming Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan, scheduled for November 15. These reports alleged a terror plot against attendees, specifically Israeli nationals, at the popular party event. Officials, including Koh Phangan District Chief Noppadon Khaomali and police officers, held a security meeting to establish confidence-building measures and ensure visitor safety during both the Full Moon Party and the Loy Krathong festival.
Chief Noppadon clarified that the circulated rumors were unsubstantiated. However, to reassure locals and tourists, security measures were intensified, with additional monitoring and law enforcement presence across Koh Phangan. Major General Sermpan Sirikong of the Surat Thani Provincial Police emphasized the importance of vigilance, stating that no credible threats were detected despite thorough investigations and close coordination with security agencies.
Reports indicated that the origin of the rumor was a French individual, who had left Thailand in late October, but the rumors had resurfaced. Tourism police were stationed at key points on Koh Samui and Koh Phangan to oversee safe travel between the islands. Ferry traffic to Koh Phangan remained busy, with police ensuring heightened security at ports.
