On November 15, the Airports of Thailand (AOT) hosted the AOT Sister Airport CEO Forum 2024 under the theme "Embracing the Next Chapter in Aviation Industry". This biennial event brought together leaders from 18 international partner airports to exchange insights on airport management and sustainable development. The forum emphasized Thailand's goal of becoming a regional aviation and tourism hub.

Key Developments:

  1. Future Collaborations: By 2025, AOT plans to add three new Sister Airport agreements with Vienna International Airport (Austria), Milan Malpensa Airport (Italy), and Salt Lake City International Airport (USA). These partnerships will provide insights into managing European passenger flows.
  2. Transit Flight Expansion: AOT aims to increase Suvarnabhumi Airport’s transit flight proportion from the current 4% to 20% within five years, aligning with global hubs like Singapore Changi Airport.
  3. Airport Upgrades: Suvarnabhumi's capacity is being expanded to handle 150 million passengers annually through projects like a third and fourth runway and new terminal expansions. Don Mueang Airport will also see upgrades, including a South Terminal and new infrastructure to accommodate 50 million passengers annually.
  4. Technology Integration: AOT is deploying modern technologies, such as biometric identification with facial recognition, to streamline passenger services and reduce wait times at all six of its airports.

Long-Term Vision:
AOT aims to position Thai airports among the world's top 20 by expanding regional connections, increasing transit traffic, and implementing advanced infrastructure projects like new Andaman and Lanna airports and even seaplane terminals. These efforts align with a broader strategy to cement Thailand's role as Southeast Asia’s aviation hub.
