On November 22, the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD) forwarded an investigation file to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), identifying Dr. Boon Vanasin, 86, founder of Thonburi Hospital, and associates as suspects in a large-scale investment fraud. This marks the second criminal case against Dr. Boon, following warrants issued earlier the same day by the Metropolitan Police Bureau.
The ECD case stems from complaints filed on November 1, where victims alleged being misled into investing since early 2022. Dr. Boon promised an annual return of 8.5% and offered Thonburi Healthcare Group (THG) shares as collateral. Victims were encouraged to fund projects like the Jin Wellbeing Center, a condominium on Rama III by the Chao Phraya River, a rubber glove factory, the Saha Thai Building, and Thonburi Bamrungmuang Hospital.
After investing, victims discovered withheld critical information, revealing fraudulent intent. A total of 12 complainants reported damages of approximately 1.97 billion baht. Dr. Boon reportedly left Thailand on September 29, 2567, flying to Hong Kong via Cathay Pacific flight CX712.
