Tuesday, November 5, 2024 — The Election Commission (EC) has yet to review the report on the investigation concerning Senator Dr. Kasikamol Plien-samai, who faces accusations of misrepresenting her qualifications, knowledge, or reputation. She allegedly claimed to have graduated from California University, using this information in her application to become a senator.

Before considering the educational qualification issue, the EC identified 2-3 additional complaints against Dr. Kasikamol Plien-samai related to alleged collusion in the Senate selection process, which are still under investigation. The EC intends to review all cases together once complete and expects to present the findings to the EC board by the end of this month.

If Dr. Kasikamol Plien-samai is found guilty of misrepresenting her educational qualifications under Section 77 (4) of the 2018 Organic Act on the Selection of Senators, she could face a prison sentence of 1-10 years, a fine of 20,000-200,000 baht, or both. Additionally, the court may order the revocation of her voting rights for 20 years.
