Deputy Government Spokesman Karom Polpornklang announced the government's invitation for Thai citizens to celebrate Loy Krathong, emphasizing its cultural value and potential as a "Soft Power" asset. Loy Krathong, seen as a significant part of Thailand's cultural heritage, is being promoted as a global festival aimed at boosting the country's economy and attracting tourists from around the world. Thais are encouraged to act as warm hosts for international visitors to create memorable experiences that highlight the unique aspects of Thai tradition.

Under the campaign theme "Thai Loy Krathong: Safe and Eco-Friendly," this year’s festival will emphasize three key areas: celebrating Thai traditions, ensuring public safety, and protecting the environment. The main event in Bangkok will be held on November 15, 2024, at Wat Arun, while other celebrations are planned across Thailand in notable cities such as Chiang Mai, Sukhothai, Tak, and Samut Songkhram, as well as in eight additional popular tourist destinations including Ayutthaya, Lampang, and Phuket.

The government views Loy Krathong as part of a broader strategy to develop "Creative Culture" and leverage local wisdom, aiming to elevate Thailand’s cultural festivals to the global stage. By enhancing Loy Krathong’s international profile, officials hope to increase tourism revenue, spread economic benefits to local communities, and promote Thailand’s cultural identity through experiences centered around the country’s riverside communities and vibrant traditions.
