On November 22, 2024, Deputy Governor of Phatthalung Province, Kongsak Juntrach, acting on behalf of the provincial governor, led an inspection of flood mitigation efforts in Mueang Phatthalung District. Alongside Highway Department officials, he reviewed drainage improvements, including sewer cleaning and the installation of high-pressure water pumps at several critical locations, such as the Asia Roundabout and Soi 31 on Ramesuan Road.
Mueang Phatthalung District has been heavily affected by water runoff from surrounding districts, such as Srinagarindra and Kong Ra, combined with persistent rainfall, causing significant flooding in six subdistricts, 42 villages, and 12 communities. The hardest-hit area is Prang Moo Subdistrict, where water levels have reached 40–50 cm in some places, including local temples. Residents have resorted to sandbags to protect their homes and have moved belongings to higher ground.
The provincial government, through its disaster prevention and mitigation office, plans to declare four districts as disaster zones: Mueang Phatthalung, Sri Banphot, Srinagarindra, and Khuan Khanun. This declaration will cover 15 subdistricts, 57 villages, and 12 communities to expedite assistance for affected residents.
Currently, floodwaters in most areas have begun to recede, except for some low-lying neighborhoods, such as Ban Nang Lat Nuea. However, ongoing rainfall continues to pose a risk of further flooding. Authorities remain on high alert to manage the situation and provide relief to affected communities.
